08.21.07 - Press Conference at 6:30SLT in ISE office in Kailua

International Stock Exchange - K, Kailua Island (219, 207, 37)

There will be a press conference on the sale of this stock exchange.  Everyone is welcome to come.  Please be respectful of others and allow me a brief statement.  Then there will be a Q&A.  Please use ? to ask a question and be respectful of the person who is asking the question.

Well, as far as I've seen/heard, there has been no press conference at all. To say the least, I'm a bit disappointed about that: I'd like to know what's going to happen with ISE. The fact that Mr. Bart Heart and Mr. Jasper Tilly decided to leave ISE is - I guess - irrevocable. Question is: what are Mr. Cocky Dagger's plans for the near future? Maybe I have missed something, and please correct me if I have... but it's one of the responsibilities of a CEO to let the shareholders and traders/investors in a stock exchange know how this stock exchange can be made attractive (again).

What I'd like to know is:

  • is there going to be a takeover of ISE, and if so, who will be the next owner/major shareholder (or has Mr. Cocky Dagger changed his mind and will he run ISE as he did, which is quite good if I may say so);
  • will Mr. Cocky Dagger stil bring back his participation in ISE back to 60% by withdrawing about 820.000 shares and put them in the shredder, according to his announcement last week;
  • which actions are undertaken by ISE management to attract new/other companies to get a quotation on ISE stock market, in order to make ISE attractive to traders/investors (again);
  • how does the management of ISE thinks to attract new IPO's as soon as possible, and which rules will apply to these IPO's (in other words: will ISE continue its policy to sharpen listing rules for new companies and/or new secondary placements);
  • will ISE continue to uphold strong rules on transparency, accountability and disclosure of personal information of enlisted companies (and what will be the role of SL Exchange Commission in this);
  • is ISE and/or Mr. Cocky Dagger looking for strategic partners, mergers or acquisitions to take "a bigger piece of the pie" on the financial market?

I didn't react on the announcement about the - initial - decision to auction ISE. I respected the choice of Mr. Cocky Dagger: one should always respect choices people make, you only can have your own opinion about it. Well, my opinion is that Mr. Cocky Dagger did what he promised to do: give the shareholder of ISE an important vote in the takeover. I heard some people who were talking about bribing shareholders... well, have a look at the real world and wake up: friendly or hostile takeovers, at the end the shareholder votes with his or her wallet. Yes, Mr. Cocky Dagger could use his majority shares to do whatever he wanted... but he didn't! Quite democratic...

As to the decision of some CEO's to leave ISE after the announcement of the auction: that's also a decision one should respect. I assume they only decide this in the best interest of their companies and their shareholders. And what I think about "hopping" from one stock market to another and ending up in a stock market that is supposed to be "community based": I don't know yet. "First we try, then we trust": the famous words of Sean Connory in the movie Entrapment.

I surely hope Mr. Cocky Dagger is able to find a way to combine his RL job and his private life with his activities in SL and ISE. Not only because every person should be able to find a balance between work and private, but also because he continuously worked on improving the stock market system (and is still doing that).

One last word on all this: business can be hard, fighting can be tough. We don't need to beat around the bush and can be honest and straightforward. Being honest and respectful are the cornerstones of doing business. And I'm a bit disappointed that these kind of attitudes sometimes are forgotten. You can be a businessman/-woman and still be a gentleman (or: gentlewoman, but that sounds so weird). Talking about business ethics should be done ethically. And I surely hope this will be possible in SL too.
